Port of Everett Awards $6.5 Million Contract for Central Marina Improvements Project

Everett, Wash. – On September 11, the Port of Everett Commission awarded the Central Marina Improvements project contract to American Construction Company, Inc., which provided the lowest bid at just under $6.5 million.
This is the third phase in a project that will provide substantial progress in the Port’s Marina Recapitalization efforts. The project includes:
- Constructs the new Guest Dock 5 and activity float at the base of the Fisherman’s Harbor project;
- Dredges the eastern portion of the Central Marina to its authorized depth;
- Constructs a new K-Dock that caters to yacht-class vessels, and has synergies with upland yacht brokers;
- Builds L-dock for the commercial fishing fleet with the floats from the existing P-Dock
Construction on the project is expected to begin in early October, with the work complete in May 2019. The hotel, and the new SE Millwright Loop Road that the Port is building, are slated to open in June 2019. It is at that point that the Port will open the public access pieces as part of the Fisherman’s Harbor project.

I want to recognize our Environmental Director Erik Gerking for leading the regulatory process to secure our marina dredging permit, our Permitting Specialist Laura Gurley for leading the effort with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Project Manager Brandon Whitaker for pulling all the pieces together.”
This project is funded, in part, by a $1.4 million federal Boating Infrastructure Grant (BIG), which is administrated by the State’s Recreational Conservation Office.

About the Marina Improvements
The Port of Everett owns and operates the largest public marina on the West Coast, offering 2,300 permanent and guest moorage slips, as well as other marine infrastructure including fueling and haul-out facilities. The marina was built in phases and consists of three basins, including the Central Marina, built in the early-1960s. The Port set a goal of rebuilding the marina over the next 30 years, an effort that began in 2006. Since then, the Port has invested $75 million in marina improvements, which include building a new, 220-slip North Marina, two new guest docks, rebuilding South Docks P &Q, Rebuilding Central I-Dock, the Everett Shipyard Cleanup and removal of creosote marine infrastructure, rebuilding the Central Marina bulkhead systems in their entirety and building a new boat yard. After the Central Marina Improvements Phase III project is complete, the Port will work to rebuild Central G Dock and finalize the placements of the boathouses.
